Who Are You? Talking Heart2Heart

Who Are You? One with good intentions or One with good CHARACTER?

Who Are You? One with good intentions or One with good CHARACTER?

This modern society leaves nothing to the imagination because of the constant growth of technology. New technology is appearing daily, and it’s moving at a rapid speed. There is something new being released everyday which makes things of yesterday obsolete. When you buy a computer or iPad, it’s literally out of date before you can get it set up. This is the focus of the modern world because the value of a person is now based on obtaining every name brand released. Have you become a person who seeks things for approval? Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” When I talk to young men and women today, one question comes to mind. Who Are You? This question appears to be somewhat challenging to many because a modern society has placed everything at your fingertips. This makes it difficult to focus on the inner person when there are so many distractions appearing daily.

There is more time spent thinking about the next phone coming out, or the next shoe coming out than you might spend thinking about who you are as a person. When you allow the emptiness of material things to represent who you are, you devalue yourself as a person. Losing focus on the important things in life makes you vulnerable to any means of obtaining approval or a certain status. This type of behavior will expose who you are and your Character or the lack there of. 3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou might prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.”

Character is doing what’s right even when no one is looking, being honest, truthful, conducting your daily life by morals and values, and most of all displaying integrity. Integrity is being a person of your word, and a person with standards and lives by them which takes discipline. Proverbs 10:9 “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” Character is important to the success of ones’ future both personally and career wise. If you lack Character, only you have the ability to make that change.

Living a life without Character and Integrity makes you susceptible to several labels such as being dishonest, disloyal, deceptive, untruthful, entitled, and selfish to name a few. Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” It may seem that others are labeling you, but if you lack Character you label yourself by your actions. Have you ever heard the saying, “the proof is in the pudding?” One without Character ruins his/her own reputation, and if this is who you are, this life will eventually spiral out of control. The cheating, lying, deceptive, and selfish behavior will come to an end because it’s a road headed for disaster. When this happens, you will look back and wonder how you got to this point and realize this is really who you are.

NOT taking responsibility reveals the lack of Character…

When you come face to face with who you are, you must take responsibility for your actions, then take the necessary steps to self-improve. Building Character is progress in work for all, so it won’t happen overnight. Because once you have the reputation of being dishonest, deceptive, irresponsible, not dependable, and untruthful, it will take some time to rebuild and regain trust from others. 1 John 2:3-4 “And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” Even though others will see the change, it will benefit you most of all. While making this change, you must narrow your circle of friends. You need to associate yourself with others with good Character traits because Character is developed by your surroundings, environment, and association.

As good Character traits emerge, the way you process thought and take action will no longer be impulsive because of who you are becoming. Who you are reveals true Character as you take responsibility for your actions. Building Character will also give you the courage to become a self-reliant and self-disciplined person. Romans 5:4 “And endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” One who no longer seeks approval based on material things but the importance of life which is people not things. Now you look at life from a new perspective because of the positive outlook on the future and a clear avenue for Success.
