Maturity is a Mindset; Talking Heart2Heart

Grown is your mindset

MATURITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AGE

The definition of adulthood is fully grown and developed, mature and sensible: not childish, of or intended for adults. 1 Corinthians 13:11 “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” You must read this definition in its entirety to fully understand how to sum up adulthood. In our society we associate being a grown up with age which is a serious misconception. There are many who have reached the legal adult age, yet they have not reached the maturity level of an adult. Maturity is a mindset, and it has nothing to do with your age.

There are several levels of maturity based on your knowledge, understanding, and the ability to reasonably cope with situations. This has nothing to do with your age now or later. Maturity is also based on your ability to process thought, and react within reason to certain situations. The way a person deals with pressure or a stressful crisis is a sign of ones’ maturity level because it’s the rational mindset that shows your level of maturity no matter what age. “Growing old is mandatory…Growing up is optional ~Chili Davis.”

Maturity is learned throughout the different stages of your life through experiences, and it’s determined based on the way you respond to circumstances. If you are one who seems to make bad choices over and over, perhaps you lack the important skills needed to react as a mature adult. As maturity is a mindset, it’s imperative to have self-control, discipline, rationality, and common sense. When you are faced with a situation, you must assess the situation before making a final decision.

It’s not too late to change your behavior because it’s possible at any age, but as stated before maturity is a mindset. The battle is in the mind where the change will take place. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” The process will not be easy, and it may even be painful at times. You must have self-control, discipline, responsible behavior, and a positive attitude. During this process, it’s helpful to encourage yourself to continue this course of action. The first step is to change the way you think, and it will change your mindset. Because all changes are made by a thought before the act is carried out.

After you put in the hard work, your life will gradually begin to change. But rest assured you will be tested with a situation, but don’t panic. Approach it as calmly as possible, take a deep breath, gather your information (facts), process your thoughts based on the situation, and have confidence in your learned ability to respond rationally. This may be a long road, but there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel because you are on the “Maturity is a Mindset” road. (GPS) You are approaching your destination. Congratulations!!!
